Health Fair at Lake Trafford Baptist Church
Community groups joined Rural Neighborhoods on Saturday, April 16th to offer a free Health Fair at the Lake Trafford Baptist Church. Approximately 130 adults and children attended and received free screenings and vaccinations from the Florida Department of Health in Collier County and the Healthcare Network of Southwest Florida. Attendees also had the opportunity to learn about community programs such as Healthy Start, the Farmworker Career Development Program, and the University of Florida’s Family Nutrition Program.
Children took turns trying the rock climbing wall operated by the Sheriff’s Office or getting their faces painted. The Collier County Sheriff’s Office also grilled hot dogs that were donated by Pacific Tomato Growers and residents received free produce donated by Gary Nunez and Bernardo Galvan, Jr.
The event was organized by Rural Neighborhoods, Florida Department of Health in Collier County, the Healthcare Network of Southwest Florida, the Sheriff’s Office, and the University of Florida’s Family Nutrition Program. It was the first Health Fair offered at that location to serve residents of the Eden Park area as well as those living along or near Westclox and Lake Trafford Road.
Other agencies that participated include Care Companion, CareerSource of Southwest Florida, Collier County Migrant Program, Community AIDS Network, Community Blood Center, Florida State College of Medicine, Goodwill Industries, Healthy Start of Southwest Florida, Immokalee Fire Control District, Legal Aid, Logical Insurance, The Shelter for Abused Women and Children, and Vitas Healthcare.
