Rural Neighborhoods Celebrates NeighborWorks America Week
20 young adults and church leaders from Palm Harbor United Methodist Church helped Rural Neighborhoods celebrate NeighborWorks America Week in early June. Each year, NeighborWorks America organizations, such as Rural Neighborhoods, work with volunteers and residents to improve communities and raise awareness about the power of engaged residents.
Palm Harbor youth planted 30 coconut palm trees at Rural Neighborhoods’ Timber Ridge at Sanders Pines rental community. The young men and women also offered a week-long camp for children at TR@SP and a Fun Day at the nearby Reserve at Eden Gardens apartments.
For more than five years, Palm Harbor youth have offered the week-long camp at Sanders Pines. Many of our children have befriended peers from Palm Harbor and look forward to their visit each year. The group provides a safe, fun learning opportunity for neighborhood children, and the church youth serve as positive role models.
Larger numbers of Palm Harbor United Methodist Church members visit Immokalee each year and help several non-profits. The 2017 group totaled nearly 40 students ranging from middle through high school.
