Cultural Festival Held at Timber Ridge
Rural Neighborhoods and residents in the Eden Park neighborhood celebrated the area’s rich diversity with a Cultural Festival at Timber Ridge. DJ Ruben Garza generously donated his time and played a variety of music and games for attendees throughout the afternoon. He was complemented by local band, Caribbean Groove. Residents celebrated their many cultures while children played games, enjoyed face painting, and did arts projects.
The idea of a festival came from residents who sought opportunities to celebrate their Mexican, Haitian, Dominican, and many other backgrounds. Volunteers worked with RN staff to plan the event which showcased locally made crafts, food, and even artwork provided by students at Lake Trafford Elementary. Children also had an opportunity to learn about how our food is grown and to plant and take home cilantro or tomato plants.
Rural Neighborhoods plans to make the Cultural Festival an annual event for the Eden Park-Esperanza Place neighborhood. To get involved in planning next year’s festival, please contact Dottie Cook at 239-658-3315.
