Rehab Program Hits 40
In partnership with Collier County, Rural Neighborhoods rehabbed 29 homes at just under $1M with another 11 homes underway. The County offers the SHIP rehab program to help homeowners with expensive health, safety, or long-term maintenance repairs to preserve and maintain their homes. The majority of applicants are over 65 with fixed incomes.
A project recently completed assisted a 70-year old artist who survived a fire in his condo. The Condominium Association covered the cost of gutting the unit, and repairing or replacing electrical, plumbing, drywall and doors but did not help with flooring, painting, appliances, or any bathroom or kitchen cabinets or fixtures. Under the SHIP program, RNI restored the unit and partnered with local non-profits who donated several used appliances the program didn’t cover. The homeowner now has a safe place to live and continue his artwork.
