Everglades I and II Child Development Centers
Parenthood brings a host of new responsibilities that can make even the most prepared person feel overwhelmed. Imagine the added challenge if you were poor. For many we serve affordable childcare is an essential part of keeping the jobs they need to support their families. It not only enables parents to work but also helps children prepare for school.
Everglades I and II Child Development Centers opened in 1978 and 1991 and serve 100 and 76 infants, toddlers and preschool children. The National Association for the Education of Young Children accredits each. Redland Christian Migrant Association, our partner of more than 30 years, offers Migrant Head Start, a comprehensive child development program serving children from birth to age 5, School Readiness and Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten to improve reading readiness and early literacy skills for 4 year old children prior to kindergarten.

Our Partner: Redland Christian Migrant Association
Executive Director Barbara Mainster joined Redland Christian Migrant Association in 1972 at a time when it had 3 childcare centers and served 75 children. Following the inspiration of founder Wendell Rollason to train caregivers from the community and respect the cultures of those served, Barbara nurtured this small grassroots organization in the decades that followed into the largest provider of childcare in Florida. Serving infants as young as six weeks, RCMA operates more than 75 centers and 2 charter schools in 21 Florida counties with an enrollment of nearly 8,000 children.
