Rural Neighborhoods Celebrates NeighborWorks Week

More than 80 guests and elected officials joined respected activist Steven Mainster to dedicate Rural Neighborhoods’ new 4,700 square foot after-school center at Everglades Village in June. The grand opening of the new Steven Mainster Learning Center marked our 2016 NeighborWorks Week celebration. The new building will host Centro Campesino-Farmworker Center’s YouthPride after-school program serving more than 70 elementary and middle-school students.

It’s a fitting tribute to Steven Mainster’s achievements as the founding director of CCFC and a board member of Rural Neighborhoods. He began his career as a teacher in upstate New York before answering a call to undertake a 40-year fight for social and economic justice on behalf of migrant and seasonal farmworkers.
