Steven Kirk Appointed to Collier County Housing Committee
Collier County Commission Chairwoman Donna Fiala recently appointed Rural Neighborhoods President, Steven Kirk, to a newly-formed Housing Stakeholder Committee. The group is to provide oversight to local government as it constructs a Community Housing Plan to address the housing needs of local residents. The planning process will begin in the Fall 2016.
The Board of County Commissioners is seeking broad input and support from the public and private sectors with representation from all community groups as the plan is developed. “To continue economic growth, local elected officials need to be persuaded to create new resources similar to the model Seattle Housing Levy,” Kirk said. “Either invest in housing or invest in roads because hard-working households – teachers, health care staff and service workers – just can’t buy or rent in the Naples-Marco Island market.”
